In order to promote, maintain and preserve the rich culture, heritage and communal harmony of the State, the State Government has constituted a Board in the name of Sikkim Culture, Heritage and Communal Harmony Board vide Notification No: 86/Home/2020, dated 28/12/2020 and is presently headed by Shri. Sonam Sherpa, Hon'ble Chairman with members drawn from State Departments like Finance, Planning, Education, Forest, Culture, IPR, Tourism etc. Based on the Action Plan proposed by the Board and as per the guidelines laid down, activities like preservation of religious institutions, preservation / restoration of traditional houses, restoration of ancient ruins are being taken up. Heritage preservation works like repair of traditional house, gumpas, chortens and mandirs, heritage memorial houses and grant-in aid to self help group and NGOs in different parts of the State for preservation works of culture and tradition are taken up by the Board.
